New York Stories
April 7th 2016
This short film ( written and director by Charles Billot) is part of a series capturing the peculiar magic of New York. Narrating fleeting, odd moments that could only happen in the city.
It delves into the randomness of life, weaving together strange encounters and unexpected situations that teeter on the fine line between comedy and discomfort. Each story highlights characters who feel slightly out of place yet deeply connected to the city’s rhythm. Through their experiences, the film explores the universal, yet distinctly New York, charm of serendipity, humor, and the unshakable sense of belonging in even the most misplaced moments.
Anechoic
Anechoic is a short film capturing a dancer’s (Magdalyn Segale) performance on the vast openness of a beach. The film explores the paradox of expansive spaces where no echoes return, leaving us with a profound sense of isolation. Anechoic is a meditation on presence, absence, and the echoes that shape our sense of being.
Words from Magdalyn Segale :”When I watch this I see the capsule of the buildings and the dance at the sunrise hour, the only time at which it is possible to be without crowd in NYC. The dance to me shows the feelings of anxiety and ambition of a young dancer desiring to be recognized as valuable. Here I dance alone, and the usual stressors of my ambition (crowds of competitors at auditions, financial strain of nyc, self-consciousness of a young woman) accompany me only in my mind.”
